Kymmi, a Las Vegas-based TNR (trap-neuter-return) rescuer, had a run-in with a wild cat a year ago outside an electric company. That’s when she discovered the cat’s three kittens, all of them had eye abnormalities and were in dire need of medical attention. She saved the kittens just in time, but she couldn’t find their mother.
The trio’s path to recovery was long and difficult, but with careful attention, things began to improve for them. Kymmi returned to the neighborhood with the intention of finding the mother and fixing and caring for all of the street cats.
With the exception of the mommy cat, she was able to catch the entire colony,” Nikki Martinez, foster mom to the three kittens, told Love Meow. “For months, Kymmi went there night after night, week after week, trying in vain to capture their mom.”
The company owner, who takes care for the neighborhood cats, continued to look for the elusive mother. Despite several failed attempts to locate her, Kymmi’s desire never wavered
Fast forward 10 days, and Kymmi finally got the news she had been waiting for. The company owner contacted her to let her know that the cat had returned, but she wasn’t alone.
“I realized this was a fresh shot when the carer informed me she had new kittens,” Kymmi told Love Meow.
She phoned Nikki, who promptly set out on the road with a drop trap. Nikki placed some stinky snacks inside the trap and waited for the wild mother to appear from a safe distance. They eventually got the elusive feline to safety after a year of seeking.
They noticed that her new babies had been tucked up beneath some bushes, out of sight. “They were all huddled together in a really thick bush, and I couldn’t get them,” Nikki explained.
“I called my sister Cordy, who lives about a mile away, and she hopped in her car with her gardening gloves and equipment to assist me!”
They were able to rescue the kittens one by one after carefully removing twigs and branches – a total of four fur babies were found. They meticulously examined the bushes to ensure that no cat was left behind.
The cat mom and her kittens were reunited in the comfort of a new nest in Kymmi’s house. After a short tour of their new surroundings, the kittens nuzzled up to their mother and breastfed in an adorable assembly line.
